Under the sponsorship of Professor Dr. Kazem Jabr Al-Jubouri, President of Al-Qadisiyah University, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Nabil Imran Al-Khalidi, Dean of the College of Arts, the College of Arts, in collaboration with the Center for Counseling and Psychological and Social Services, held an educational scientific seminar titled “Intellectual Extremism and its Role in Destroying Society,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Hussam Muhammad Munshid and Assistant Professor Dr. Firas Abdul Khaliq Mandil.<\/p>\n
The seminar aimed to define the concept of intellectual extremism and its psychological effects on the individual through the anguish of the self in its struggle with the internal first and with society second. The seminar also addressed the clarification that extremism is a dysfunctional behavioral phenomenon that occurs at the three psychological levels (cognitive, emotional or affective, and behavioral) and explained the difference between extremism and terrorism based on behavioral components. It highlighted the main theories that have addressed intellectual extremism, including the theory of intergroup conflict, the belief systems theory, and social identity theory, which elucidated how extremist personalities are formed and how to prevent and treat intellectual extremism.<\/p>\n
The seminar recommended several measures to mitigate this phenomenon, including intensifying seminars and workshops regarding extremism, its dimensions, and its levels among university youth, as well as through various media forms. It also emphasized assisting curriculum developers and planners in incorporating educational materials that contribute to establishing preventive plans in their guidance and educational forms for dealing with students with extremist tendencies and teaching students comprehensive positive values such as tolerance, empathy, acceptance of differences and diversity, and peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
