Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Kazem Jabr Al-Jubouri, President of Al-Qadisiyah University, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Munir Abdul Amir Abdul Fatlawi, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Department of Surgery and Obstetrics at the College held a discussion session entitled (General Anesthesia in Small Animals) in which Lecturer Ali Ismail Jassim lectured. The session included a definition of general anesthesia as a state of reversible loss of consciousness when the pet is “asleep” under the influence of anesthesia. Anesthetic drugs injected into the veins and anesthetic gases inhaled into the lungs travel through the bloodstream to the brain. The session recommended that unless the animal suffers from uncontrolled kidney, heart or liver failure or suffers from some other fatal diseases, it is generally safe to undergo anesthesia. The main risk factors for death during anesthesia are physical condition, age, lack of supervision and tracheal intubation in cats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
