Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Prof. Dr. Kazem Jabr Al-Jubouri, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education, Prof. Dr. Sattar Hamid Hamza Al-Janabi, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, in cooperation with the Counseling and Psychological Services Center at the College of Education, held a scientific symposium entitled (University Students’ Awareness of Electronic Blackmail and Ways to Treat It) in the Chemistry Department Hall, where Assistant Professor Dr. Khaled Abu Jassim Abdul lectured. Blackmail is defined as an attempt to deprive a person of his will and freedom by inflicting psychological and physical harm on him with the aim of achieving material gains or immoral goals. Its causes include excessive trust in strangers, lack of awareness of what surrounds individuals, absence of family supervision, family disintegration, weak religious restraint, and escaping from reality. Methods of avoiding blackmail include having a religious restraint, preserving personal data and not publishing it on social media, not fearing the blackmailer, and communicating with the security services.
