Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Assistant Professor Dr. Asaad Hassan Al-Zaidy, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Pharmacy, Al-Qadisiyah University, in cooperation with the Community Police in Diwaniyah, organized a scientific workshop entitled “The Scourge of Drugs, Their Impact on Society, and Methods of Prevention.” The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Awliya Jabbar Sahib and Lieutenant Colonel Abbas Bardaan Al-Barqawi
shed light on drugs and their types, including natural, industrial, and synthetic, and the reasons for drug use, in addition to explaining the legal basis for combating drugs internationally and nationally.
They then addressed the position of Iraqi legislation by discussing the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017, explaining the agencies responsible for combating drugs and the criminalization of drug trafficking and use under this law.
The most important recommendations included activating the role of the media and educational institutions, such as schools and universities, in combating drugs, as well as supporting sports activities by individuals and the state, and activating the legal and regulatory role to achieve a drug-free society.
