Dr. Luay Ali Khalil, a faculty member in the Chemistry Department at the College of Science, Al-Qadisiyah University, published a scientific paper titled “Design, Preparation, Molecular Cohesion, and Biological Evaluation of a Novel Beta-Lactam Derivative with Anti-Breast Cancer Activity” in the journal Chemical Review and Letters, indexed in Scopus Q3.

The study aimed to prepare and characterize a novel beta-lactam derivative through a series of sequential reactions. The chemical structures of the prepared compounds were confirmed using FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 1³C-NMR techniques. A molecular docking study of the beta-lactam compound demonstrated a strong and stable binding to the breast cancer-associated MCF-7 protein, with a binding energy of −8.78 kcal/mol and an RMSD value of 2.40 Å. Furthermore, bioassays showed selective cytotoxicity against MCF-7 breast cancer cells compared to normal WRL-68 cells, suggesting the potential use of this compound as a possible anticancer agent.
