The College of Engineering at Al-Qadisiyah University Organizes a Scientific Course on Basic Concepts and Skills of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

The Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Qadisiyah University, organized a specialized scientific course entitled “Basic Concepts and Skills of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)” in the Continuing Education Hall. The course was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Hamsa Abbas Nayef, Lecturer Sawsan Abdul-Jabbar Noumi, and Lecturer Sajjad Ali Karim.

The course aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills regarding the fundamental concepts of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and to introduce them to the most important GIS tools and techniques used in collecting, managing, analyzing, and producing spatial data in the form of maps that serve various engineering applications, particularly in the field of civil engineering. The course also covered several topics, including an introduction to the components of GIS, types of spatial and descriptive data, data models (Vector and Raster), and practical applications of GIS in planning, transportation, and engineering project management. The importance of GIS in supporting decision-making and improving the quality of engineering outputs was also highlighted.
