In accordance with the directives of the Women’s Affairs Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to hold workshops and courses on protecting women in the digital space, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Pharmacy / Al-Qadisiyah University, in cooperation with the Sustainable Development Unit at the college, held a workshop on (Addiction to the use of social media – its causes and repercussions – means to reduce it) on Monday, 10/21/2024, in Jaber bin Hayyan Hall at 11:30 am. The lecture was given by Asst. Prof. Dr. Awliya Jabbar, the owner/responsible for the Women’s Affairs Unit at the college, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Rahim Farhoud, and Asst. M. Nourhan Intizar Kazim.
The workshop aimed to clarify the underlying causes of addiction to social media, analyze the repercussions and negative effects on the individual and society, as well as identify effective means to reduce this phenomenon and clarify the position of legislation on it. It highlighted the ethics that social media users should have; excessive use of these means, the reasons behind addiction to them and the negative effects resulting from this phenomenon, as well as how to reduce the use of these means and ways to get rid of addiction to them. The workshop recommended a set of recommendations, some of which are related to the individual and some of which are related to society, such as spreading awareness and education, psychological and social support, encouraging real communication between individuals, as well as setting the necessary laws and policies to reduce this phenomenon.
