Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Nizam Jabbar Talib, and as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, the Women’s Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Private Law and the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the College of Law, Al-Qadisiyah University, held a scientific workshop entitled “Violence Against Women and Its Structural Effects on Family Cohesion: A Sharia and Psychological Perspective.” The workshop was presented by Professor Dr. Shatha Mudhaffar Hussein and Assistant Professor Dr. [Name Missing]. The workshop aimed to shed light on the concept of violence against women, its types, and its causes from a legal, psychological, and social perspective. It also aimed to explain the structural effects of violence on family stability and functions, and the role of women within the family structure. Particular emphasis was placed on the legal perspective that prohibits violence and affirms women’s dignity and rights within the family. The workshop further explored the psychological effects of violence on women and children, and how this impacts the overall mental health of the family. Finally, it proposed mechanisms to reduce violence through awareness, reform, and treatment programs. The workshop recommended strengthening community awareness about the dangers of violence and its effects on the family unit, integrating prevention and treatment programs into educational, health, and social institutions, activating legal and secular laws that protect women and guarantee their rights, and training psychological and social specialists to deal with cases of domestic violence.
