Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Aqeel Rahim Hassan Al-Barqawi, the College of Medicine at Al-Qadisiyah University held a scientific symposium in the Continuing Education Hall at Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital entitled:
“The Latest Developments in Nephrology.”
The symposium was attended by the University President, the Dean of the College, a number of faculty members, nephrologists, and postgraduate students.
The symposium addressed the latest therapeutic and diagnostic advancements in nephrology, including updates in the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD), the role of SGLT2 inhibitors in slowing the decline of kidney function, and a review of the effectiveness of Finerenone in treating diabetic patients with kidney problems.
The symposium also discussed the latest developments in nephrology. The symposium also discussed modern biomarkers for the early detection of acute kidney injury (AKI), the latest kidney transplant protocols, particularly the use of Belatacept as an advanced immunotherapy option, and the latest innovations in dialysis techniques, especially the global trend toward promoting home dialysis and improving the quality of care provided to patients.
The symposium aimed to explore the latest internationally approved treatments for kidney diseases, enhance knowledge of early diagnostic indicators for AKI, discuss updates to kidney transplant protocols, and review recent advancements in dialysis methods.
The symposium recommended the adoption of SGLT2 and Finerenone therapies for eligible patients according to current standards. It also recommended integrating AKI biomarkers into intensive care units, updating kidney transplant protocols to align with global developments, and supporting home dialysis programs by providing the necessary infrastructure.
