As part of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week, the Psychological Guidance Unit organized an educational seminar entitled “Drugs and Their Effects on the Individual and Society.” The seminar was presented by Professor Ali Badiwi Tabour, with Professor Muhammad Hatem Abdul Zahra serving as rapporteur.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness about drugs and their impact on individuals and society. Drugs are considered a serious health, social, and economic issue that profoundly affects communities. The seminar highlighted the main aspects of the impact of drugs on society:

Addiction: Drug use leads to addiction, which affects individuals’ physical and mental health.

Diseases: Drug use increases the risk of developing chronic diseases such as hepatitis and HIV/AIDS.

Mental Health: Drug use is associated with increased cases of depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders.

– Social Impact

Negative Effects on Education: Drug use can lead to poor academic performance and reduced educational attainment.

Loss of Opportunities: Addicted youth suffer from lost social and economic opportunities due to their addiction.

– Coping Strategies

Awareness: The community must be educated about the dangers and effects of drugs.

Treatment Programs: Effective addiction treatment and psychological support programs must be provided.

Community Cooperation: Communities need to collaborate between the government, NGOs, and civil society to combat the drug problem.
