As part of its programs aimed at supporting institutional performance efficiency and enhancing energy sustainability, the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance at Al-Qadisiyah University held a specialized workshop for quality assurance department staff on the ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System standard, in preparation for its implementation within the university.

This workshop is held in coordination with the Diwaniyah Governorate and is supervised by Professor Abbas Sabbar, Director of the Department, in coordination with Engineer Ghada Al-Amiri, a certified trainer and holder of an international energy auditor certificate from the British company IRCA and the Swiss company SGS.

The three-day workshop focuses on the mechanisms for implementing an energy management system in educational institutions, which contributes to increasing energy efficiency, reducing waste, and promoting a culture of sustainability within the university.

It’s worth noting that implementing the ISO 50001:2018 standard is one of the goals of the National Initiative for Energy Support and Emissions Reduction, which falls within the government program aimed at enhancing energy efficiency in government institutions and the academic sector.

This standard is also one of the criteria supporting the national classification of Iraqi universities, as it relates to the axes of institutional performance, occupational health and safety, and the quality and sustainability of the university environment.
